My name is Spiros Kyriacou and I am offering piano and music theory tuition for both adults and children of all ages in the North London area. I have been teaching since 2006 and enjoy what I do. Im very passionate about all things piano and hope to inspire you to enjoy playing the piano as much as I do. I have taught lots of people from all walks of life. I also have a handful of carefully selected high quality pianos for sale to enable you to get the best out of your playing and practice.

I can be available most times during the week, daytime as well as evenings, and am very flexible in this respect. I have a clean CRB check for the purposes of working with children or those who are vulnerable. My rates are very reasonable and below the industry standard as I want to make lessons affordable and encourage learning of this fantastic instrument amongst everyone not only the privileged few.

Piano Lessons

Lessons are structured according to each individuals needs and desires in what they want to achieve. As a teacher I hope to guide the pupil and give them direction by sharing the knowledge and experience which has helped me to reach to level I am presently at. Ultimately it is down to the pupil to follow this though and keep up regular practice in the week to make the lessons worthwhile.

I like to base my lessons on a varied approach from learning by ear, from the music itself, to include analysis of the structure, as well as methods to improve technique and dexterity with the use of exercises and scales. This will be backed up with the relevant theory which will give the foundation for learning. Depending on the length of the lesson and level of concentration of the individual I will try to spend a little time on each equally important different area which all contribute to successful playing. I can also teach you about correct posture of the hands to minimise fatigue and injury and to play most effectively, as well as proper use of the body in tone production. The biggest emphasis will be on performing the chosen pieces musically and convincingly.

I try to make lessons fun and enjoyable and to let the pupil have some say in what they wish to learn style wise. Im a believer in that if you enjoy what you are practicing you will make much bigger and faster gains, as the motivation and desire will be there. Im happy to teach just for fun but can also prepare and enter you for the graded exams and can cover all aspects of the syllabus. I can highlight any weak areas and find solutions and practice methods to overcome these. My pupils previously entered for exams (adults and children) have all achieved high marks, some as high as Distinction. I tend to use the Associated Board (ABRSM) syllabus as that is what I learnt and was taught on myself but can follow other very similar exam bodies such as the Trinity Guildhall for example. Whichever path you choose to take, all I ask is that you reciprocate my efforts as the learning process involves two people. If I feel you are not happy in some way then we will need to work through this otherwise progress may not be made.

It doesn't matter what age or level you are at or your technical ability, as long as you enjoy your playing and are making music that is the most important thing. With the right instruction and attitude you can easily accomplish your goals.

About the Tutor

I started playing the piano aged 8 and have enjoyed playing ever since. Having taken formal lessons from this early age I achieved grade 8 (ABRSM) by the time I was 15. I continued my studies on the instrument but conversely went on to study the Sciences at University eventually achieving a BSc(HONS). Despite this detour from music academia I always continued to play the piano and was a member of the music department at the University of Liverpool where I studied. I am predominantly a classically trained musician but can teach other styles. I have previously collaborated with other musicians and singers in the past for the purposes of putting on recitals/ performances. With over 20 year playing experience I am very dedicated to what I do and like to think I have a friendly and patient approach to my teaching. In general I am a mild mannered and approachable person.

I have been teaching piano on a private one to one basis since 2006. I had also taught in a privately owned music school briefly during the early part of this period before deciding to build up a client base of my own. I have taught lots of different people of all ages and abilities. I normally teach from about the ages of 6 onwards, dealing mainly with beginner and intermediate levels of the 1-4 grades, but can also teach later grades if you wish. I teach from my home in Palmers Green N13 on a professional quality piano. I also do home visits within the local area and cover most parts of North London which, unless very near, usually incurr a small travel fee. Either way you will be in a friendly and relaxed environment.

I can can provide references from the various adults and children I've worked with.

Please contact me if you have any questions, would like further information or to arrange a trial lesson. I look forward to hearing from you...
